This January, join us for a unique and exciting Midwest Highland Intensive Workshop in historical combat and swordsmanship, instructed by Maestro Paul Macdonald direct from Edinburgh, Scotland. Offered for the first time in the Midwest, this two-day event brings an acknowledged expert and instructor in European Martial Arts to our doorstep.

** Lecture on Saturday:
"Half-Lang Warriors" - Re-forging the Spirit of a Lost Martial Culture
"An Outlander's Guide to the Highlands" - presentation exploring the Highland Martial Culture referencing the recent TV series.
"Highland Arms and Martial Culture" - examining traditional Highland arms and recounting lore of training and martial use.

A Lecture/Discussion session will be held on Saturday 20 January 2018 from 10:00am - 2:00pm, and the Workshop Training session will be held on Sunday 21 January 2018 from 2:00pm - 8:00pm, both at Christie Hall in Nevada Iowa.  You may purchase tickets separately for each session, but a discount on tuition is available if you attend both.

A block of rooms have been secured at the Holiday Inn Express in Ames Iowa, for $110.00 (+tax) per night, under the event name "Burns Dinner". Please see the 'EXCLUSIVE OFFER' at the bottom of the page for information on discounted tickets for the Burns' Dinner!!!

Included with your tuition are refreshments on both days and a late afternoon meal on Sunday. We will attempt to accommodate requests, in the case of allergies, dietetic needs, etc. Please contact the event organizer with any questions.

Students attending the workshop on Sunday are required to wear sleeved shirts, full-toed footwear for safety, and are welcome to bring any additional personal safety gear. That being said, dress for your individual comfort - you will be on your feet for most of the day.

Any participant under the age of 18 will need to have a signed waiver by a parent/guardian for participation. All participants will be required to sign a Hold Harmless agreement for insurance purposes.

If you already own practice weapons (wood, composite, etc.) or stage-combat ready weapons (composite, steel, etc.), you are allowed to bring them, but they must pass the Maestro's inspection to be used in class.
